New qualifying programme in sports law
Sports law is no longer a peripheral field.
It structures competitions, regulates federations, safeguards clubs and protects athletes.
Together with Jacques Messeca, I co-direct the EFB’s new qualification programme on the lawyer’s role in the world of sport.
The programme will begin on 18 March 2026.
The challenge is about more than simply teaching rules.
It is to convey a strategic and practical understanding:
• understand sports disputes and their specific characteristics
• master disciplinary mechanisms and anti-doping
• understand the governance of clubs and federations
• anticipate the issues surrounding major international competitions
Sport is becoming global.
So is its regulation.
Training in these issues enables lawyers to act methodically and with perspective in a constantly evolving sector.
It is also a way to keep our profession moving forward: learning, updating our practices and sharing experience.
