Like Euro 2020 and Copa América 2020, the next Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for early 2021, could also be postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

With the emergence of Covid-19, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) suspended all matches as early as last March.
In light of this suspension, some observers believe that the conditions may no longer be in place to maintain the competition’s schedule and ensure that the teams are ready in time.

Conversely, several voices are arguing for it to remain in its current form, particularly given the lack of available dates in the 2021 international sporting calendar.
This latest episode adds to Cameroon’s turbulent relationship with the Africa Cup of Nations, which, let us not forget, was originally due to take place in 2019, then in summer 2021, before being rescheduled for early 2021.

Pending a decision on the fate of AFCON 2021, protecting the health of players and the public remains the CAF President’s “highest priority”.
