The President of the International Olympic Committee has announced the release of $800 million to overcome the difficulties caused by the coronavirus crisis, of which $650 million will cover the additional costs of postponing the Tokyo Olympics until 2021 and $150 million will go to the Olympic Movement. The aim is to ensure that the competition venues and Olympic Village remain available for a further year, as the accommodation was due to be sold immediately after the Games closed, originally scheduled for 9 August 2020.
