The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has agreed that athletes can protest to support social justice efforts at upcoming Olympic selection events.
They will be able, for example, to kneel or raise a fist while the national anthem is blaring on the podium or the starting line. The athletes will also be allowed to wear clothing conveying political messages.

This is a real revolution operated by the USOPC, whose previous rules strictly prohibited any form of protest by athletes.

However, the International Olympic Committee - IOC and the Paralympic maintain rule # 50, which prohibits the expression of any political, social or religious opinion during the Olympic Games, which is contested by many American athletes and various international sports associations.

Recall that in December 2020, the IOC had hinted that it would be ready to soften its position.

Was it to buy time to quell protests or to consider relaxing Rule # 50?

The future will tell us.

Ms Monlouis brings her expert assessment of football overall and globally and on Africa, which remains the focus on our TV channel. Her football knowledge has always impressed me; she can write about it without being a professional athlete in this field. The bonus for me comes from the analyses and legal advice she brings to our audience.
